A safari is on almost everyone’s bucket list. Thankfully, you do not have to travel to Africa or Asia anymore for the best wildlife safari experiences. The rich flora and fauna of America’s safari parks brings wildlife close to your doorstep. From hiring open-air vehicles to riding on horseback, everything is a possibility at these rewarding safari experiences.

Best places in the US to experience a wildlife safari

Cumberland, Ohio

Let’s be honest, when we say wildlife, Ohio is not the state that springs to mind. However, the 9,000-acre Wilds is one of the best for viewing a rich variety of wildlife, including cheetahs, camels, and wild horses. Getting to see magnificent mustangs and wild horses run in the wild on their own free will is an experience far away from the coordinated races on TVG. You can opt for zip lining, horseback riding, biking, and fishing to enrich your wildlife experience.

Eatonville, Washington

The Northwest Trek Wildlife Park is a one of a kind experience for anyone not looking for another drive-thru. You can opt for the 50-minute tram tour, or you may trek through the terrain with guides. The park allows visitors to interact with the wildlife and their exhibits. Do not miss the Cheney Family Discovery Center for a hobnob with the animals of North America.

Natural Bridge, Virginia

If you want to create memorable moments of adventure and fun with your family, the Virginia Safari Park is the place to be. There are over 1,000 animals in this 180-acre park. Walk around the Safari Village, feed the giraffes, or pick any activity you like to spend the day amid nature. The park is also very much hands on and encourages the interaction of visitors and their children with the animals in their petting zoo.

Camp Verde, Arizona

The Out of Africa Wildlife Park is rich in wildlife. If you are lucky, you can even feed a tiger! Your kids will love the antics of Tucker, the cute armadillo. There is a 40-minute bus tour that gives you a direct look at the habitat and lives of antelopes, tigers, bison, and zebras. In case you want to add something thrilling to the day, don’t forget to include the 2.5-hour long zip line tour of the park.

Pine Mountain, Georgia

The Pine Mountain Wild Animal Safari offers one of the most undiluted wildlife safari experiences in the U.S. south. The 250-acre spread is home many animals — 120 species to be exact — including rare birds and reptiles. You can rent a van, car, or a bus for a tour, or you can explore the valleys in your own vehicle. The park also offers stroll-friendly sections hosting smaller, but just as interesting, residents.

Viewing wildlife close-up is a lot different than watching them on TV. Watching their antics and daily habits from just feet away is quite the treat for both adults and children. These wildlife parks are also havens for photographers and nature study groups. Next spring and summer, head out to one of these parks for a complete package of enjoyment and discovery on your own wildlife safari.
