Helpful Home Uses for Lemons

Both honey and lemons are acclaimed for their multitude of health benefits. Both have antibacterial and antioxidant properties that boost the immune system. A combination of honey and lemon works together to reduce weight and promotes healthy skin and hair. However, most people do not know that lemons are also useful when cleaning many household items.

A natural bleach

Slice a lemon, put the slices into hot water, and soak white clothes in the water for an hour. Then wash them, and they will be like new.

Cleaning a stubbornly dirty floor

Use lemon juice to clean stubborn dirt on a floor. It will make a marble floor clean and bright, and a wooden floor moisturized and shiny.

Cleaning clothes stained by black tea or coffee

Sprinkle lemon juice on clothes to remove black tea or coffee stains. If clothes are scorched due to ironing, apply lemon juice to the scorched area and dry the clothes in the sun to help hide the mark.

Cleaning a microwave

A microwave is usually dirty, but too small to wipe thoroughly. Put half a lemon in a bowl of water and heat it in a microwave at a high temperature for 1 minute, then wipe off any oil or stains inside the microwave.

Cleaning a cutting board

If a cutting board is not cleaned thoroughly, salmonella and E. coli may grow. Lemon juice mixed with salt can eliminate bacteria, and thoroughly clean the cutting board in a natural way.

Cleaning mold

Mold in clothes is hard to remove. Use a brush dipped in some lemon juice to brush off the mold, leaving no trace.

Removing odor in a kitchen

Sometimes kitchens have offensive odors, and baking sliced lemons in a pan in the over can eliminate these odors.

Removing spots on a non-stick pan

Spots can develop easily on a non-stick pan. Cover the spots with lemon juice, or add 1 piece of lemon with 2 tablespoons of baking soda to some water in the pan and heat to boiling — this will help to remove the spots.
