Former Party Leader Jiang Zemin One Step Closer to Formal Arrest

Former Chinese Communist Party (CCP) leader Jiang Zemin has been “placed under control” by the authorities in China, says an inside source.

A reliable source within Chinese officialdom told the Epoch Times that the 89-year-old Party bigwig and his two sons have been “placed under control,” meaning that their freedom of movement has been for the time being constrained.

Beyond that, there was little information on Jiang’s current situation. Lin Feng, the Epoch Times editor in contact with the Chinese source, believes the purpose of the disclosure is to prepare Jiang’s CCP cohorts “to give everyone a psychological preparation for when [President Xi Jinping] actually formally arrests Jiang.”

Jiang and his supporters were also forewarned earlier this month through an op-ed piece in the state-run People’s Daily.

“Some leaders not only installed their cronies [in key positions] to create conditions for them to wield influence in future, but also wanted to intervene in the major issues of the organization they formerly worked for, even many years after they retired,” the editorial said, reported AFP.

Steadily since taking power, Xi has been purging Jiang’s followers in the Party and its armed wing the PLA.

The slow burn tactics that we’re seeing used against Jiang were the same Xi used against former security czar Zhou Yongkang, who was once one of the most powerful men in communist China.

Zhou—like another high flying Jiang ally Bo Xilai—is serving a life sentence in prison. Both men’s arrests have shocked the Party establishment. It’ll be more than interesting to watch when Jiang is eventually formerly arrested and charged with whatever crimes the Party decides to make public.

Zhou’s demise was steady and well-orchestrated to preserve the survival of the Party. Jiang’s will be much the same.

The Epoch Times have been well ahead in their reports about how Xi has been taking down opponents within the Party, that being those aligned with Jiang who established a network of cronies while he was in power.

Many of them—such as Zhou and Bo—were supported by Jiang because of their fervent participation in Jiang’s persecution of the popular Falun Gong meditation practice. Both Zhou and Bo have also been heavily implicated in the killing of Falun Gong practitioners for their bodily organs.

Jiang ceased being the leader of the Communist Party in 2002, and then two years later stepped down from his position as Chairman of the Central Military Commission in 2004. Through his network, he continued to wield considerable power and influence in the Party that greatly undermined the leadership of his successor Hu Jintao.
