Has North Korea Executed Its Vice Premier?

North Korea and its leader are back in the spotlight, with reports claiming that Choe Yong-gon, North Korea’s vice premier, was executed by firing squad this year. Kim Jong-un ordered the execution by firing squad after Choe Yong-gon showed discontent with the leader’s policies.

Vice Premier Choe Yong-gon was a former delegate of the North-South cooperation group, and South Korea’s Unification Ministry. Close to 70 officials have been killed under Kim Jong-un’s rule, reported the Yonhap news agency.

N. Korean leader ordered execution of vice premier:

According to the BBC, Choe was last seen publicly in December, South Korea’s unification ministry said. The ministry said it was “closely monitoring the possibility of any changes in Choe’s circumstances.”

Few details about the execution were given by Yonhap, which is often the first to report news from North Korea.

South Korea’s Unification Ministry, which handles the country’s ties with North Korea, said in a text message received by Reuters that Choe had not been spotted in public for about eight months, and that it was closely monitoring the situation, Huffington Post wrote.

Kim Jong-un Executes His Vice Premier For WHAT?:

In May, reports claimed North Korea had executed its then defence Chief Hyon Yong-chol, by putting him in front of an anti-aircraft gun. If Choe Yong-gon’s execution is confirmed, it would put the number of senior officials executed since Kim Jong-un took charge of the country at 70, reported IB Times.

In April, South Korea’s intelligence agency said Kim Jong-un had ordered the execution of 15 officials in the first four months of the year. Among them was a forestry official who complained about the leader’s forestation plan, the agency said at the time, but it is not clear if this man was Choe Yong-gon, wrote the BBC.

North Korea is definitely not a place where you would want to share you opinion.
