Young Hong Kongers and Their Umbrella Dreams (Video)

This week we’ve unfortunately seen Hong Kong police and pro-democracy supporters in what is being considered the worst clashes since the umbrella movement began over two months ago.

And it’s been a hard and long two months. The Hong Kong pro-Beijing government has still offered no concessions and now several student leaders have gone on a hunger strike.

But while it’s these dramatic events that typically capture headlines, the subtle realities of what’s going on within such peaceful movements largely remains untold.

That’s why short documentaries like the one above are important as a historical record.

They provide another means for young Hong Kongers to describe their peaceful aspirations and concerns for the future.

Aptly called Umbrella Dreams: Fighting for Hong Kong Democracy, the documentary was filmed over four days by Hank Leukart during October.
