My social media feeds are full of animal rescue calls for action and poor dogs who need a home. Well, I’d like to see our feeds full of children who need rescuing this month.
Let’s take a moment to remember the option for adoption, the option to give a child hope and a good life, or let a baby live and give it to someone else to take care of. Adoption is a hopeful option.
Let’s not forget fathers either. I know this sign is about moms, but an adopted child can become a genuinely loved child to their new father. Here’s to mothers and fathers (saviors) that adopt children. You are awesome.
National Adoption Month (website here), organized by the U.S. Children’s Bureau, is working hard to find children homes. This year they are focusing more attention on sibling bonds—the idea that siblings do much better when kept together.
“The (November adoption month) theme pays tribute to the unique bond between siblings—it is the longest lasting relationship most people have, longer than the parent-child or spousal relationship.
“Over the last two decades, research has demonstrated the critical nature of sibling bonds and their importance for children’s development and emotional well-being. In fact, some research suggests that children and youth in foster care experience better outcomes when placed with their siblings.”
