Badass Chengdu Cops Want You. Just Bring Your Crossbow!

Whether you want a career in special forces or just robin’ the hood, the Public Security Bureau in Chengdu has something for you!

With 359 openings—including 100 for special armed forces, and SWAT teams—this hardcore publicity campaign (on Weibo!) is bound to attract just the right sorts of law-abiding characters needed to keep the peace in the streets of Sichuan’s capital.

There are even 21 positions for talented athletes, ranging from football, and basketball to badminton, and table tennis for competing at the national level.

Hey what? You mean the Chinese police force pays people to play sport, and mess around for crazy photo shoots like this one in their spare time?

Ironically, the police in China usually arrest hunters caught with crossbows. Maybe these are just some of the weapons they confiscated? Well, according to GoChengdoo.com, some police actually use crossbows to shoot suspects carrying explosives.

I don’t know about you, but these images left me seriously confused, and also worried for the people of Chengdu. I certainly wouldn’t want to be out at night, and get pulled over by some bored cop in a dark, misty street with his headlights blaring, and a loaded AK47 in his arms.

Just last month there was another PR stunt like this in Taizhou, Zhejiang Province. The timing seems very awkward considering the number of police shooting mistakes has gone up recently, and people have been calling for stricter gun laws.
