According to traditional customs, there are specific foods, rituals and visits to do on each day of the Chinese New Year.
Here’s a quick fact list of what to do every day of the Festival, from the first day to the last day – the 15th of the New Year.

Happy New Year!
Day 1: No working today, even the broom’s on holidays!
Day 2: Give gifts and red packets to children.
Day 3: It’s a day of potential ‘arguments’ so not a good day to visit people.
Day 4: If your employer invites everyone but you to pray on this day, it’s a polite way of telling you “you’re fired”.
Day 5: Make noise and clean the house to drive out poverty!
Day 6: Stores reopen with festivities and special offers for good luck.
Day 7: Pay special attention to respecting elder and not scolding kids because this is the “day of humans”.
Day 8: Watch the weather this day, it will tell the success of the harvest for the year.
Day 9: Jade Emperor’s birthday today. People worship him for a good harvest for the year.
Day 10: Don’t use any stone tools today because it’s the “day of stone”.
Day 11: Father-in-laws host their son-in-laws for a meal.
Day 12: Buy food for the coming Lantern Festival.
Day 13: A day of eating lighter than usual. Phew!
Day 14: Make sure everything is ready for the Lantern Festival!
Day 15: It’s the Lantern Festival and the last day of the Chinese New Year Festival. Enjoy!
